The Golden Warrior

Abed Alrhman Shabaneh

Poetry is one of the catalysts of We Refuse to be Scapegoats and Tall Walls Wall Us – two of the key works in Pam Skelton’s solo exhibition at London’s P21 Gallery. The spoken word performances and the poet’s own voices of Louis MacNiece and Dareen Tatour provide the backbone of the exhibition soundscape devised by Wayne Brown.

We have also been exploring the poetry of Abed Alrhman Shabaneh (b. 1988) – Jerusalem-based Palestinian independent writer and curator who studied Architecture at Birzeit University, Palestine. He worked as an urban designer before to curating contemporary art and experimenting with writing. He remains commited to exposing the dynamic nature of society through contemporaty art and literature.

We are delighted to be able to include the titular poem from Shabaneh’s book The Golden Warrior published in Arabic in 2020 as part of We Refuse to be Scapegoats exhibition resources. Here is the poem in his own translation accompanied by the work of the book illustrator Dima Bamieh.
